Family hospitalized after carbon monoxide found in home

Sterling Heights firefighters are blaming a suspected gas leak for sickening multiple family members with carbon monoxide poisoning Nov. 14. The incident occurred at around 8 a.m. at a residence in the 8000 block of Tinkler Road, located near 17 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue. Firefighters went to the scene and found three people belonging to the same family who were outside the home but had symptoms of severe poisoning by carbon monoxide.

A 20-year-old Troy man stands charged with first-degree murder in the bludgeoning death of his aunt, Rubab Huq, 55, Nov. 12 in a home in the 6500 block of Shoreline Drive, in the John R Road and South Boulevard area, According to a police statement, Troy police received a 911 call for an ambulance to the home on Shoreline Drive at about 2:30 p.m. Nov. 12 regarding a severely injured woman. According to the police report, before police got the call requesting an ambulance, the caller, another family member, reported that Masrur was missing and in an agitated state.

State transportation economic development grant to improve ride quality in Pontiac

November 14, 2018 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation has awarded a $3,600,000 Transportation Economic Development Fund Category A grant to the City of Pontiac to be used to reconstruct and resurface Centerpoint Parkway from South Boulevard to Opdyke Road to improve ride quality. The grant will leverage $389,500,000 in private investment, at a private/public ratio of more than 108-to-1.

Hurmiz Ishak, 63, of Sterling Heights, formerly a deacon at St. Joseph Chaldean Catholic Church at 2442 E. Big Beaver Road, was arraigned on the felony charges in the 52-4 District Court Oct. 31. On Thursday an attorney for the Michigan Chapter of CAIR, , filed a lawsuit against the city of Troy stating they are illegally blocking the Adam Community Center from building a Mosque within city limits.
