SOS office in Taylor to close for remodeling June 25-29

The S.E. Wayne County PLUS Secretary of State office in Taylor will close for a week later this month due to a remodeling project, but customers can hop online to instead, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said today. The office at 21572 Ecorse Road will not open on Monday, June 25 and will resume normal service at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 2. Customers and staff will benefit from renovations that include new data lines to speed transactions, a reconfigured counter design, the addition of an accessible work station for persons with disabilities and an improved drop box for auto dealer transactions.

The third of three district courts where charges have been filed against a man accused of a workplace shooting spree has held a competency hearing for the suspect, moving the case forward. Vernest Griffin, 45 of Sterling Heights, underwent a psychological evaluation earlier this year after being charged with the Feb. 1 murders of Keith Kitchen in Taylor and Eriberto "Eddie" Perez in Pontiac at their respective workplaces.
