Shelton was home to one of the largest arson fires in U.S. history. In 1975, the Sponge Rubber Products plant (formerly owned by B.F. Goodrich) was set on fire. Charles Moeller, president of the parent company, was acquitted on arson charges, but in a civil lawsuit, a jury in 1988 ruled the insurer did not have to pay claims on the fire. Eight others were convicted or pleaded guilty.

Fairfield County Man Charged With Distributing Counterfeit Drugs

Kamil Golebiowski, 25, of Shelton, was arrested Tuesday as part of an ongoing statewide initiative targeting narcotics dealers who distribute heroin, fentanyl or opioids that cause death or serious injury to users, said John H. Durham, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Golebiowski's arrest is in connection with the July 9, 2017, overdose death of a 29-year-old Seymour man.

The fire also affected four businesses, City Stylez Barber Shop, Little Petting Zoo, M&T Nail & Spa Salon and Formal Massage, in the building, Chief Fran Jones said.

A Fairfield County man was sentenced for possessing child pornography after his conviction in a 'Dark Web' investigation led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations division in New Haven. The HSI operation led by special agents revealed in 2017 that Michael Hull, 61, of Shelton, was accessing the dark web to search for, view and download child pornography.

Staples Boys Volleyballers Win State LL Title

The Staples High School boys volleyball team tonight beat rival Ridgefield in a tense fifth set tiebreaker to win the LL state championship 3-2 at Shelton. Staples finished its perfect season with a 25-0 record, and won both the FCAIC and Connecticut state championships.
