Physical therapist gets jail for stealing from Medicare

A physical therapist who admitted defrauding the government has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to repay nearly $20,000. Jimmie James Anthony of Muskegon was sentenced in U.S. District Court last week after pleading guilty in August to billing Medicare for physical therapy services that never were performed.

Man gets 30 months for brain-injury assault on ex-girlfriend

A man accused of a "severe assault" on his then girlfriend - including bites all over her body and hand-print bruising over her mouth -- that left her with a brain injury has been sentenced to 30 months. Brian Curtis Vink, 31, of Laketon Township pleaded no contest to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

Police are investigating allegations that some western Michigan high school students ate edible marijuana during a trip to Detroit for a marching band competition. WZZM-TV and MLive.com report Tuesday that letters to the community and staff at Orchard View High School in Muskegon said the band director and principal learned that a "small number" of students had eaten edible marijuana.

Bumstead, of Newaygo, beat Poppy Sias-Hernandez of Muskegon by capturing 50.7 percent of the votes, according to unofficial results. Bumstead told MLive/Muskegon Chronicle that he was "very pleased" with his campaign's effort to recapture the district, but he was especially pleased with the number of registered voters who turned out to cast ballots on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The grocery, beer and wine store is "coming pretty soon," according to a sign at its entrance on the first floor of the Highpoint Flats apartment building, 285 W. Western Ave. in downtown Muskegon. A Muskegon man is accused of barging into an apartment, with his face masked and brandishing a gun, to rob the occupants who allegedly were set up by a visitor. Jeremy Rashad Honore, 24, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery for the incident that occurred Oct. 21 at the Glen Oaks Apartments in Muskegon.
