Christmas Cash for Kids kicks off

A $2,500 donation was given by the nonprofit organization, Children's' Resources Inc. in Hagerstown, Maryland, to kick off the 13th annual Christmas Cash for Kids initiative Friday at the City National Bank located in downtown Martinsburg. The United Way of the Eastern Panhandle and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources are teaming up again with City National Bank, 97.5 WKMZ and 1340 & 93.7 WEPM to help identify those in need and rally the community to collect for the cause.

Martinsburg man accused of robbing, killing 86 year-old woman to appear in court Monday

The hearing for a man accused of fatally beating an elderly woman during a September carjacking has been rescheduled for Monday. Adam Domer, 36, of Martinsburg, allegedly attacked Joan Staubs, 86, as she was getting into her car to leave for church on September 2 in the State Circle area of Martinsburg.

Child Advocacy Centers see increase in kids served

Since fiscal year 2016-17, the local Safe Haven Child Advocacy Center has seen a 27 percent increase in new children served in the Eastern Panhandle, according to Jenna Hott, supervisor with the Safe Haven Child Advocacy Center. In fiscal year 2017-18, Hott said the group served 204 new children.

Trial scheduled for alleged participants of ERJ - Sdrug smuggling ring

An ex-correctional officer and nine inmates charged in an alleged drug smuggling ring at the Eastern Regional Jail were tentatively scheduled for a February jury trial on Tuesday. After hearing the allegations and alleged evidence, the October Grand Jury sitting in Berkeley County charged the 10 individuals in a 19-page indictment with crimes related to smuggling drugs inside the jail.

Amazon's planned second headquarters could boost nearby Eastern Panhandle

Eastern Panhandle officials were excited to learn that one of the world's largest companies will be opening their second headquarters nearby. Amazon officially announced Tuesday that "HQ2" will be split between New York City and Crystal City in Arlington County, Va.

Previously-arrested Martinsburg man charged with more felonies

A Martinsburg man charged with possessing stolen property as well as transporting a controlled substance and dangerous material in jail has been charged with additional felonies pending a jury trial. Trent Lee Calvert, 20, of Blairton Road, was arraigned Friday in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on the felony charges of wanton endangerment and cultivation of marijuana.

Veterans Day parade

The first Veterans Day parade marches through downtown Martinsburg Saturday. Four State Community Veterans Engagement Board, a veterans advocacy group, organized the parade in Martinsburg to honor area veterans.

Marine Corps Ball celebrates branch and those who serve

The West Virginia Division of Highways advises motorists that Chestnut Hill Road in Jefferson County will be closed to through traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. The road closure will start at the intersection with U.S. Route 340 and extend along CR 32 about 1.5 miles for paving operations. Signs will be in place to warn motorists, who are advised to seek an alternate route.

Nathan Mathias Long, 34, of Koncer Drive, Martinsburg, was arraigned Thursday in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on the felony charge of child neglect creating a risk of injury and the misdemeanor charges of possession of heroin and possession of diazepam. Richard L. Bergenty, 67, of Forbes Drive, Martinsburg, was arraigned Thursday in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on the misdemeanor charge of shoplifting.

Hearing postponed in case of fatal carjacking

A preliminary hearing that was set to be held Thursday in the case of a man alleged to have killed an 86-year-old female during an alleged carjacking on Sept. 2 was postponed due to a Adam Lee Domer, 36, of Pendleton Drive, Martinsburg, was initially charged with felony counts of robbery and grand larceny as well as two counts of malicious wounding after he allegedly stole Joan Staubs' vehicle and hit her with it when she was leaving her home.

Man accused of sexually abusing 17-year-old girl

A Martinsburg man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly sexually abusing a 17-year-old female, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Glenroy Mark Cameron, 45, of West Race Street, was arraigned Thursday on the felony charges of first-degree sexual abuse and attempted sexual abuse.
