About: lehigh acres, florida

Lehigh Acres is a city located on the western coast of Florida along the Gulf of Mexico. The city first started out as cattle ranch in the 1950s owned by Lee Ratner. Ratner later joined with Gould, Riskin and Shapiro. The group of businessmen began selling the land, renaming the land Lehigh Acres. Unfortunately, not many lots were sold and in 1997 Lehigh Acres remained almost ninety percent empty. From 2003 to 2007 a surge in housing prices caused a boom in the city's housing construction. Over 75,000 new homes were built in 2006 alone.
