A New Jersey couple on their way to get married in Pittsburgh were killed in a fiery chain-reaction crash last week on Interstate 78 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Kathryn M. Schurtz, 35, and Joseph D. Kearney, both of Jersey City, died in the collision Wednesday afternoon in Windsor Township.

More court delays in case of woman fatally struck by car steps from her husband

JERSEY CITY -- A Jersey City man who watched as his wife was fatally struck by a vehicle in October 2017 was already frustrated by delays in the prosecution of the driver. That frustration has only grown now that the matter has been moved from municipal court in Jersey City to Hoboken, with a hearing set for Dec. 6. "As long as I can walk and I'm breathing, I'm going to show up," said Patrick Andriani, 66, who's wife, Azucena Andriani, 73, was fatally struck by a vehicle as she crossed Baldwin Avenue at Newark Avenue on Oct. 10, 2017.

Jersey City cop pleads guilty to DWI in Bergen County

JERSEY CITY -- Jersey City Police Officer Carlos Melendez has pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in an incident in which his vehicle struck two parked vehicles in Bergen County in April. On Oct. 18 the 30-year-old pleaded guilty to DWI, was fined $689, his driver's license was suspended for three months and he was ordered to spend 12 hours at an Intoxicated Driver Resource Center, a Wood-Ridge Municipal Court official said Friday.

Lawsuit that said cop manhandled, arrested couple in road-rage incident is settled

JERSEY CITY -- A Jersey City couple has received a $7,500 settlement in a lawsuit that claimed they were manhandled and arrested for no reason by an enraged off-duty Jersey City police lieutenant. The lawsuit filed by Ryan McFarland and Georgia Cochran relates to a May 7, 2016 road-rage incident on Barrow Street and it also named Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, Police Chief Michael Kelly, the city and the police department as defendants.
