Holland is located in western Michigan on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan on Lake Macatawa. The city was settled by Dutch Americans in the late 1800s, and still carries a Dutch tradition and inspired culture. $1 Million to Civic Center from Elsa Prince-Broekhuizen Wednesday, May 16

The donation comes via the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area and is dedicated to the renovation and expansion of the market area, plaza and landscaping features.

A 31-year-old Holland man has been sentenced to prison for a 2016 armed robbery at a Dollar Tree store in Holland. On Friday in Ottawa County Circuit Court, Jeremy Beavers was sentenced to from 108 to 306 months in prison plus fines and costs for the Aug. 24, 2016, robbery at the store.

Oman Creek boating access site, Black River Harbor, and Saxon Harbor to close for renovations

This news release is being issued jointly by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Iron County Forestry and Parks and the U.S. Forest Service's Ottawa National Forest. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today announced that the Oman Creek boating access site, located in Gogebic County, will temporarily close for improvements beginning May 21. Improvements include rebuilding the mouth of the creek to pre-July 2016 flash-flood dimensions, as well as armoring the shoreline of the creek mouth and Lake Superior shoreline to prevent additional erosion.

Two killed in I-75 crash

Two people were killed and one injured Wednesday morning in a two-car accident on Interstate Highway 75 near Red Top Mountain. Emergency personnel responding to the crash in the northbound lanes of the interstate near Red Top Mountain found three people in an overturned white Ford E-250 full-size van on the right shoulder of the interstate.

Observatory Donations Boost SAAA Drive Tuesday, May 8

HOLLAND -- Three major pledges have boosted the Shoreline Amateur Astronomical Association members' effort to build an Ottawa County public observatory, by $10,000, according to member Peter Burkey. The Holland SAAA is trying to raise $65,000 to build a permanent and public observatory at Ottawa County's Hemlock Crossing park; so far, they have $36,500, Burkey told WHTC-AM/FM.
