Blaze devours 40-foot-tall wood chip pile at Hillsboro landfill

A 40-foot-tall tower of wood chips ignited in a Hillsboro landfill Friday evening, triggering a fire that eventually grew into a two-alarm blaze, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue officials said. Firefighters arrived at the landfill on the 3200 block of Southeast Minter Bridge Road just before 8:30 p.m. The 200-foot-long wood chip pile provided an "unlimited fuel supply" that soon also included another scrap wood pile that was just as large.
