Situated in the south central San Joaquin Valley, the city of Hanford is an important commercial and cultural center. The Hanford Fox Theatre was built downtown in 1929. The building is used predominately for live concerts and shows including the Charlie Daniels Band and Kathy Griffin. The Bastille, used as the Kings County Jail from 1898 through 1964, was constructed using Romanesque style architecture and features a crenellated octagonal tower. Today it is used as a restaurant and a nightclub.

A Celebration of Life for Kevin Koelewyn, a respected Tulare FFA teacher who died on Sunday, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24. Koelewyn was attending the national FFA convention in Indianapolis when he was found in his hotel room on Oct. 25. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. Koelewyn was widely known for his role as a agriculture teacher with Tulare Joint Union High School District, a youth baseball coach, and for being a dedicated husband and father.
