Flint awards proposed $7 million housing project tax exemption

A new $7 million low-income housing development could be coming to Flint in late 2019 if a gap in funding is filled. Berkely Place apartments, a 33-unit complex being developed by Communities First Inc., received a 6 percent payment in lieu of taxes after city council approved amending the PILOT into its taxation ordinance on Nov. 12. If funding for the project is secured, the complex will be constructed on Ballenger Highway just north of the Flushing and Ballenger intersection.

Thanksgiving dinner, sock giveaway part of Blessed to be a Blessing event

The Blessed to be a Blessing dinner will return for its 10th year this week to provide Flint children and families a warm meal and clothing ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Almost three decades after the landmark Lead and Copper Rule went into effect, children and pregnant women are being poisoned by lead in our nation's drinking water in part because there is no requirement that the EPA be notified about where lead pipes are.
