Castro Valley is located in central California. The city was named in honor of Don Guillermo Castro, a rancher and a soldier in the Mexican army. Castro was given a land grant that consisted of 28,000 acres. Because he had a gambling habit, he ended up having to sell off portions of the land in order to pay off some of his gambling debts. A 50-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Interstate Highway 580 in San Leandro on Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol. The teen, whose name and city of residence were not released because he is underage, was booked into Alameda County Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted murder, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, according to Pleasanton police Detective Anthony Pittl.
