Carrollton is located in west central Georgia in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The land once belonged to the Creek Indians and was incorporated in 1829. It was named for Charles Carroll, the last living signer of the Declaration of Independence. The town was featured in the 1983 Murder in Coweta County although no scenes were filmed in Carrollton. It was also mentioned in both the novel Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell and the movie of the same name. Southern Hills' City Station is 'about their community'

Southern Hills Christian Church held a preview event for the community, including county commissioners and city officials, for its new City Station opening on Maple Street in Carrollton. In advance of its grand opening Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the church invited members of the community to visit the 90,000-square-foot community center on 8.51 acres behind CVS Pharmacy.

State task force aids local agencies in protecting kids

If a predator believes he has a willing underage victim, it does not matter where the predator is because he will drive what distance is required to meet the victim. Glenn Lyle, a detective with the Carrollton Police Department, said that if a predator finds a child he perceives to be having trouble at home, or does not fit in well, he may lavish the child with praise, gifts, promises of a relationship and then drive out of state.

Stormwater work part of larger Tanner project

The city of Carrollton has approved a $325,000 bid from Carl Owens Construction to begin work on a stormwater drainage project across from Tanner Health System. According to City Manager Tim Grizzard, Tanner Health System has contracted with the construction company to perform the site work for its new facilities on Dixie Street and Tanner is having the contractor bury all of the utilities along the street.
