Authorities identify man killed in fiery Santa Clara crash

A motorist killed in a fiery collision with a power pole in Santa Clara on Thursday has been identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office as 45-year-old Francis Carpenito, of Campbell. Carpenito was driving northbound on San Tomas Expressway at a "high rate of speed" about 10:20 a.m. when he lost control of his Mercedes-Benz as it crossed the intersection with El Camino Real, Santa Clara police said Friday.

Westmont High School's drama department is staging "Hotel A-Go-Go," a swinging '60s adaptation of Georges Feydeau's "L'HA tel du Libre-A While it may not be in French anymore, "Hotel A-Go-Go" is still a farce, with the comedy coming from mistaken identities and quick entrances and exits. Performances are Nov. 9-10 and 15-16 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. at the Westmont Theater, 4805 Westmont Ave. The Kristen Strom Quartet closes out the Ainsley House Wine and Concert Series Nov. 4 with a tribute concert to the late John Shifflet.

Plans for a gym at Canyon Heights Academy ran into parking problems at last week's Campbell Planning Commission meeting. Administrators for the private Catholic school, located at the former Hazelwood Elementary site in the Campbell Union School District, came to the Oct. 23 meeting with plans in hand for the 8,400-square-foot gym.
