A Bloomington man who admitted stealing hundreds of dollars worth of tools from a work van in the parking lot of an Urbana hotel last month has been sentenced to two years of probation. Judge Heidi Ladd on Friday accepted the guilty plea of Tyris Cheers, 45, but noted that given his lengthy record, he was being extended a great opportunity.

The Pantagraph reports that 38-year-old Jay C. Laesch of Heyworth was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to money laundering and filing a fraudulent sales tax return.

McLean County prosecutors will ask for no more than 14 years in prison for a Rantoul resident who admitted to selling another man drugs that resulted in that man's death. Troy McBride, 24, pleaded guilty Friday to drug-induced homicide.
