Berwyn is home to "The Spindle," a sculpture consisting of eight cars impaled on a fifty foot spike. It was created in 1989 by artist Dustin Shuler, and was shown in the movies Wayne's World and Wanted. Grassroots efforts to raise over $300,000 to relocate the sculpture failed, and it was demolished in 2008 to make way for a Walgreens. The city also has one of the largest Laundromats—a 13,500 square feet building, with 161 washers, 140 dryers, a play area, televisions, a bird sanctuary and free pizza every Wednesday.

Berwyn man charged with impersonating Secretary of State employee, stealing from residents

Approached at Chicago gas stations about working for the Illinois Secretary of State, seven people were sucked into a Berwyn man's scam, forking over thousands of dollars for fake application fees and other expenses, according to the Illinois Attorney General. Hugo Torres, 44, of Berwyn, stands accused of defrauding seven Cook County residents of at least $5,000 while posing as a Secretary of State employee.

Arlington Heights man involved in deadly collision on I-290

An Arlington Heights man driving an RV crashed into a car stopped along Interstate 290 near West suburban Hillside on Sunday, killing one of the occupants, police say. The 35-year-old man was driving a 1993 Chevrolet motor home on I-290 at Mannheim Road about 3:50 p.m. when it struck a green 2005 Nissan sedan parked on the right shoulder of the road, according to an Illinois State Police news release Tuesday.
