Sixteen miles form downtown Detroit Westland was originally home to the Pottawatomie Indians. The area is also home to the Nankin Mill, a flourmill restored by Henry Ford in the 1900's. Wayne-Westland Community Schools announced early Tuesday morning it would close all its schools after several threats to the district were posted on social media. District officials say state and county officials spent much of Monday investigating the threats and decided closing the district's schools, which are located in Westland, Wayne and Canton, was the best course of action.
