About: vineland, new jersey

Vineland is located in southern New Jersey. Charles K. Landis, the city's founder, discovered that the soil was well-suited for growing grapes and began advertising to Italian grape growers in order to attract them to Vineland. Even the name of the city hints at its grape growing capabilities. When Thomas Bramwell Welch discovered a pasteurization process that prevents the fermentation of grapes, he founded Welch's Grape Juice in Vineland and purchased locally-grown grapes to make his "unfermented wine" or grape juice.
