Ten miles northeast of Denver, Colorado, sits the town of Thornton. With 81 city parks, over 2,000 acres of open space, over eighty miles of trails, and substantial golf courses. Golf courses in the area include Thorncreek Golf Course, Heritage Todd Creek Golf Club, and Riverdale Knolls Golf Course. The area of Thornton was mostly farmland until 1953, when Sam Hoffman purchased a lot of land from Denver and began to lay out a town. The E-470 Public Highway Authority's board of directors on Thursday voted to eliminate a development fee charged on all new construction within 1.5 miles of either side of the 47-mile highway that loops around the eastern edge of metro Denver.
