Case against Vernest Griffin, suspect in killing spree, moving to trial

The Wayne County portion of Vernest Griffin's case is moving closer to a trial after he was bound over to Third Circuit Court April 16. Griffin, faces charges that he killed two people during a Feb. 1 crime spree that spanned Wayne and Oakland counties. Charges in Wayne County include first-degree premeditated murder, carjacking, armed robbery and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the incident at BSD Linehaul in Taylor, where Keith Kitchen, 60, was shot to death.

For the second time in less than a week, Wyandotte police found themselves in an unusual low-speed chase that ended safely, but not without a bit of drama. Police said a 26-year-old Taylor man in a Chevrolet Impala, driving north on Fort Street, had a broken taillight.
