Two men involved in multi-jurisdictional theft ring caught in Woodhaven stealing

A surveillance team of four Sterling Heights police officers, along with Woodhaven police, arrested two men after they were caught walking out of home improvement stores with high-end merchandise. According to a Woodhaven police report, Sterling Heights police officers followed two men to the Home Depot, 11100 Telegraph Road in Taylor, just after 5 p.m. on March 11, and watched as one man entered the store and the other pulled their vehicle up to the door.

A 16-year-old is charged with murder after investigators say he participated in the beating of a 61-year-old man, who became unconscious on Eight Mile Road in Detroit and was later run over by a hit-and-run driver and killed. Deante Controll Taylor, 16, of Detroit was charged as an adult with second-degree murder on Monday, March 12, for the Feb. 18 attack on Xavier Dawn Pratcher, 61, of Southfield.

Husband and wife dead after domestic dispute turns violent outside Woodhaven business

A woman and her husband are dead after a heated argument ended with the husband allegedly shooting his wife before turning the gun on himself. Police said the woman's best friend called 911 at about 11:20 p.m. Friday telling police the two were involved in an intense argument and the husband had a gun.

Public meeting will update residents on Metro Airport runway reconstruction plan

A public information meeting offering residents an update on the Detroit Metropolitan Airport runway reconstruction plans will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 March 7 at Wayne County Community College District, 21000 North Line, Taylor. Shane Buckner was sentenced to 12- to 25 years in prison for stabbing his longtime friend to death Aug. 8. Buckner pleaded guilty to the crime last month. He was facing up to life in prison had he been convicted without a plea bargain.
