One arrested for shooting in Sugar Land Town Square

One person has been arrested after gunfire shattered a peaceful night in Sugar Land Town Square July 12 when shots were fired from the sunroof of a black sedan, striking a building but causing no injuries. "At about 11 p.m., we began receiving reports of shots fired in Town Square," said city spokesman Doug Adolph.

Sugar Land Rotary installs new officers

Sugar Land City Council approved a design contract for a voter-approved trail project that will run adjacent to Ditch H. After working closely with residents, city staff planned a path for the five-mile trail that will include two pedestrian bridges, connect to existing trails adjacent to Clements High School along Sweetwater Boulevard and run adjacent to Ditch H. The north-south section is planned to cross under Meadowcroft, Lexington Boulevard, State Highway 6 and U.S. Highway 59. Public engagement will continue as the design process progresses. This will include a public input meeting prior to the start of the design process.

Police seek suspected car, credit card robbers

Sugar Land police are looking for two people who used stolen credit cards at stores in Houston and Stafford recently. The cards were stolen during a robbery in Sugar Land on June 15. A woman said she parked behind a shopping center in the 1600 block of Kensington Drive at 8:45 p.m. As she opened a rear car door to retrieve her purse, a man took her purse at gunpoint and drove away in her car.

Judge James H. Shoemake of the 434th District Court sentenced Samia Alam Quddusi of Sugar Land to four years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Institutional Division on June 9. A jury convicted the defendant of felony theft on April 21 after a weeklong trial. The 24-year-old Sugar Land woman stole over $40,000 from her employer in 2014.
