Lane County commissioners boost age to 21 for buying and using tobacco

Lane County will be the first county in the state to raise the minimum age for buying or using tobacco, going up from age 18 to 21. On a 3-2 vote, the Lane County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved an ordinance raising the legal tobacco age countywide, including in Eugene, Springfield and the 10 other cities in the county. The new county ordinance is the latest in the growing Tobacco 21 campaign, an effort to pass similar local and state laws around the country.
