Smyrna is located in central Tennessee, near Nashville. Smyrna began as an agrarian community in the early 1800s. The fact that the town's location was located along a railroad running from Nashville to Chattanooga allowed Smyrna to play an important role in the Civil War. A Confederate soldier named Sam Davis was captured in the town and tortured for information to no avail. He is viewed as a Confederate hero and his 160-acre plantation remains one of the town's most important historical sites.

Ellis murder charge bound over

A first-degree murder charge against the man accused of robbing and killing Smyrna resident Kimberly Allen has been bound over to a Rutherford County grand jury. Smyrna General Sessions Judge Lynn Alexander found probable cause to send the murder charge against Eric Ellis , 32, of Smyrna to the grand jury along with charges of aggravated burglary, theft between $10,000 and $60,000 and kidnapping in connection with the March 2016 death of Allen.

Child Rape Suspect from Smyrna to file plea in April

A sealed indictment landed 32-year-old Maurice Darnell Stewart behind bars in Rutherford County earlier this month. Stewart, who is currently behind bars, lives in Smyrna, Tennessee.
