Metro Transit's spring schedule begins Saturday , and it's adding trips to more than 80 bus routes throughout King County, including Routes 5 and 28 Express and the RapidRide E Line in our neighborhood.

Emergency action to speed repairs of West Point Treatment Plant

As repairs are made to the mechanical failure at King County's West Point Wastewater Treatment Facility that forced the plant to discharge untreated wastewater/stormwater directly into Puget Sound, Metropolitan King County Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles is working to expedite the efforts to get the facility back to full capacity. Kohl-Welles, whose Council District includes the West Point Plant, sponsored a motion unanimously adopted by the Council February 27. The motion extends County Executive Dow Constantine's Declaration of Emergency issued on February 9 creating a waiver on the competitive bidding and solicitation requirements for contracts relating to the repair and replacement of damaged structures and equipment at the plant.

Council reviews draft Hwy 99 plan, approves law requiring report of lost, stolen guns

The Edmonds City Council got a closer look Tuesday night at a draft plan aimed at setting the stage for pedestrian-friendly and visually-appealing development along the 2-mile stretch of Highway 99 running through Edmonds. The council also unanimously approved a new city ordinance, proposed by Councilmember Mike Nelson and discussed in detail last week, that requires gun owners to report lost and stolen firearms to police or face a $500 fine.

Skier rescued after breaking leg

A 46-year-old Shoreline man was rescued Monday after breaking his leg while cross-country skiing about 14 miles south of Dryden. Jeff Boersema was skiing with his family off Upper Tronson Road near milepost 165 on Highway 97 when he broke his lower right leg, according to Rich Magnussen with Chelan County Emergency Management.
