Shelton was home to one of the largest arson fires in U.S. history. In 1975, the Sponge Rubber Products plant (formerly owned by B.F. Goodrich) was set on fire. Bridgeport duo nabbed for additional burglary charges

Three months after being charged with four smash and grab burglaries in Shelton, a Bridgeport duo is back in cuffs again for their alleged involvement in two similar incidents that happened in Westport around the same time, police said. Roman Nieves, 37, and Keron Nixon , 34, are facing a litany of burglary and conspiracy charges after a months-long investigation by Westport police tied them to a burglary and an attempted burglary that occurred in the late-night, early-morning portion of Dec. 17. The first incident occurred at Gaetanos Deli , 1713 Post Road East, around 1 a.m. when police responded to an alarm activation.

Waterbury man charged with attempted Shelton carjacking

Police announced Saturday that they arrested a 37-year-old Waterbury man earlier this month after an attempted carjacking Police said Gerardo Retamar was caught on March 17, after a female called to report that a man was trying to carjack her vehicle in front of Family Dental on Center Street in Shelton. The driver told police the man had opened her car door and tried to get in and grab her keys.

A Superior Court judge is being asked to block a tuition increase by the city of Bridgeport to students of Stratford, Trumbull and Shelton who attend the city's magnet schools.
