Police haven't said why a Royal Oak police officer opened fire and fatally shot a 28-year-old man inside his vehicle at a White Castle drive-thru on April 11, and a lawyer and relative of the man who was killed believes charges should be filed. The case remains under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and no charges have been filed against the officer.

Observers in Court, an organization focused on the unequal treatment of defendants in the judicial system based on race, is planning a protest against "police terrorism" and, generally, gun violence, at 13800 Oak Park Blvd. in Oak Park beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 17. Troy police shot and killed 23-year-old Robert G. Issa on April 9 outside his family home when Issa allegedly charged police while armed with knives. A Royal Oak police officer shot and killed 28-year-old Antonino Gordon of Royal Oak on April 11. Gordon was in the drive-thru of a White Castle and had allegedly fled a traffic stop initiated by the same officer about 15 minutes prior.

A Royal Oak police officer fatally shot a man in the drive-through of a White Castle restaurant shortly after the man fled a traffic stop Tuesday evening, according to Royal Oak police. "The incident began at 6:11 p.m. when the officer attempted to make a traffic stop," Royal Oak police say.

North and south bike lanes coming to Royal Oak roads

Based on a recommendation from the Royal Oak City Commission, Royal Oak will create new north and south bike lanes along Washington Avenue, from Woodward Avenue to Euclid, east across Euclid, and along North Main Street, from Euclid to Normandy Road.
