Located forty miles form Philadelphia Pottstown was established around 1753 and named after its founder John Potts. The area is a center for farming and dairying. Lower Pottsgrove police have obtained a warrant to detain a 51-year-old Pottstown resident, last known to be in the Shamokin PA area, on seven charges related to an alleged domestic assault that reportedly occurred April 8 near Cutillo's Restaurant, 2688 E. High St., according to the department's CrimeWatch website . Charles E. Reidler Jr., the suspect named in the incident, remains at large, the department reported.

A 59-year-old Pottstown man, Terry Lee Smith , has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in an arrest that followed his departure April 7 from the parking lot of Ron's Crooked Hill Tavern, 1271 N. Sanatoga Rd., the Lower Pottsgrove Police Department reported on its CrimeWatch website . Ofc. Scott Bond said he saw and followed a maroon Toyota FJ Cruiser as it left the tavern premises, and "observed numerous traffic violations the vehicle driving in the wrong lane of travel, crossing over the double yellow line on multiple occasions, and crossing the white fog line."
