Garage destroyed in residential fire

The Portage Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that occurred at a home in Portage causing around $100,000 in damages. Personnel were dispatched to 3540 Westcove Drive around 11:20 p.m. on March 27. Heavy fire and smoke was showing in the garage and part of the home when crews arrived, according the Portage Department of Public Safety.

Funeral arrangements set for Portage teen killed in crash

Visitation for Dante V. Latora, 17, will be at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Avenue in Portage on Tuesday, March 28 from 2-4 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m. His funeral is set for Wednesday at 12 p.m. at Langeland Funeral Homes, 411 East Centre Avenue in Portage, with visitation starting at 11 a.m. Latora, a senior at Portage Central High School, was killed in an accident on Interstate 95 south in Hanover, Virginia on Thursday morning. His family and friends say he was an exceptionally gifted student, excelling academically and even on the national wrestling level.

Police are seeking help find a missing 75-year-old man who was spotted early Friday, March 24, in Portage. Jose O. Sanchez, who is in the early stages of dementia, left his Wyoming home around 9 a.m. Thursday for work but did not show up.
