The flood waters may have receded in the Southtown area, but Kalamazoo City Officials say it's actually going to get worse before it gets better. A big surge of floodwater is headed toward Kalamazoo from Calhoun County and Public Works Director James Baker says they could see the worst flooding they have seen in decades.

Three people pepper-sprayed at Portage restaurant, police respond

Three people were treated for irritation from pepper spray after police say they were sprayed during a large gathering at a Portage restaurant. Portage Department of Public Safety officers initially responded about 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 to the Riviera Maya Restaurant, 5036 S. Westnedge Ave., because a large group of people was leaving the restaurant at the same time.

Power outage affects hundreds south of Kalamazoo airport

About 1,325 Consumers Energy customers were without electric power early Thursday afternoon in an area just south of the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport. The company said a 46,000-volt power distribution line was downed at just before 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 15, causing the disruption in an area from just south to the airport to just north of Vicksburg.

Zachary Patten found guilty in murder of Kalamazoo mother

After a morning of deliberation, Patten, 33, of Portage, was found guilty by a Kalamazoo County Circuit Court jury of first-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm. Patten admitted to a Kalamazoo detective that he had shot Graciela Portillo-Esparza, but said he had been aiming for her brother, according to testimony in Patten's murder trial.
