Palatine Jaycees hosting inaugural beer festival

Home staging professionals redecorate WINGS shelter in Schaumburg

Volunteers Wednesday redecorated a WINGS home for victims of domestic violence in Schaumburg, with the goal of making the road to recovery more healing and uplifting. With this being Worldwide Staging Service Week, the local chapter of the International Association of Home Staging Professionals chose WINGS as its charity for this year, and members donated their time and resources to beautify the home.

The Palatine Police Department will host a free Child Safety Seat Checkpoint from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, with certified child passenger safety technicians at police headquarters, 595 N. Hicks Road, checking car seats for proper installation.

Buffalo Grove Panera Bread moving to Palatine

The Panera Bread at 1228 W. Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove, just west of Buffalo Grove High School, is preparing to move to the northeast corner of Rand and Dundee roads in Palatine about 1.8 miles west sometime this fall or early winter. Restaurant manager Matt Buchanan said signs announcing the move are already up inside, though no exact dates for the closing of the old site or the opening of the new have been set.

Palatine denies American Legion's request for outdoor patio

The manager of an American Legion on Monday said she was "stunned" by the Palatine village council's unanimous vote against allowing the group to build an outdoor seating area. Rosette Marturana, manager of the Palatine American Legion Post 690 at 122 W. Palatine Road, said the group has been working on plans to allow an outdoor patio and service area for patrons and expected approval from the council members.

Edward Vaughan, 19, was sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender in exchange for his guilty plea, court records show. Authorities said Vaughan was living in Kentucky two years ago when an undercover Washington, D.C., officer made contact with him on an online messaging application as part of the investigation.
