Three years into her tenure as superintendent of Arlington Heights Elementary District 25, Lori Bein has received a contract extension for another three years. The school board voted 5-0 Thursday night to ink a new deal with Bein, who will get 2 percent raises each year.

State lawmakers speaking at Palatine GOP meeting

Two members of the Illinois General Assembly are scheduled to speak at a Palatine Township Republican meeting Saturday, June 3. Featured will be Sen. Tom Rooney and Rep. The Eastland Disaster Historical Society will make a presentation at Christ Lutheran Church, 41 S. Rohlwing Road in Palatine at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11. The Eastland, a ship docked on the Chicago River between Clark and LaSalle streets on July 24, 1915, rolled over before it ever left the dock and claimed more lives than the Titanic sinking. Fire in Palatine townhouse complex injures two

A fast-moving fire that spread through a Palatine townhouse complex late Friday injured two residents and gutted two units. Firefighters were alerted shortly before midnight and found flames and smoke coming from the rear of two three-story townhouses in the 1000 block of North Glenview Court, according to the Palatine Fire Department.

Will ex-Rolling Meadows teacher lose pension after guilty plea?

Teachers' Retirement System officials said Friday they will review whether a former Rolling Meadows High School teacher is eligible to keep his $76,354-a-year pension after he pleaded guilty last week to the sexual assault of a student 44 years ago in New Hampshire. Arthur Peekel, 75, of Palatine, agreed to a plea deal May 12 in which his 12-month sentence was suspended, though he was ordered to pay a $1,200 fine and register as a sex offender for the next decade.
