Rich Nye named superintendent of the Ogden School District

Rich K. Nye, a career educator and a deputy state superintendent, has been appointed superintendent of the Ogden School District. The Ogden School Board of Education voted unanimously on Thursday to appoint Nye as the 17th superintendent of the district, which serves more than 12,000 students.

Historic Ben Lomond Hotel evacuated in Ogden fire

Smoke swamped the first few floors of the historic Ben Lomond Hotel in downtown Ogden on Sunday, prompting an evacuation of about 80 people and a quick response from fire crews. The Ogden Fire Department soon learned that the actual fire was located outside the building on an exterior stairway at the adjacent Courtyard Inn.

Fire at Ogden aluminum foundry causes $400,000 in damage

The fire at GSC Foundries, 2738 S. Commerce Way, was reported shortly after 6 p.m. Everyone inside the building was able to get out safely before firefighters arrived, said Ogden deputy fire chief Eric Bauman. Most of the fire's significant damage was contained to metal fabrication equipment inside the building, Bauman said.

Gas leak likely caused explosion at Ogden house

Investigators suspect a gas leak caused an explosion that destroyed a house in Ogden and burned a man who was rescued with the help of two parole agents who had just visited the home. Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Eric Bauman told the Standard-Examiner an investigation is continuing but a gas leak likely caused the blast that sent up 30-foot high flames at the house on Monroe Boulevard about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
