The town of Normal was first called North Bloomington, but was renamed in 1865 after the Illinois State Normal University that was located there. The Illinois State Normal University, an institution that trains teachers, later became a four-year university and has since been renamed Illinois State University. Amtrak ramping up Midwestern service during Thanksgiving week
Passengers heading home for Thanksgiving on the train in Illinois and Michigan will have more options than usual on Nov. 22 and Nov. 26.
