The first people to settle in what is now Mount Prospect, Illinois were primarily from New England. However, in the early 1840s, the majority of these settlers left for various reasons such as moving west for gold or religious reasons, or moving back east. In 1848 a large wave of German immigrants came to America and moved out west. Mount Prospect was primarily settled by Lutheran Germans whose hopes were to establish a community. They were successful in their goal, producing a German speaking, farming community.

Date set for trial of Mount Pleasant woman charged with father's murder

The trial of the woman accused of fatally shooting her father in the I'On community last May will begin in November, her attorney says. Brittany Simpson, 32, faces charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to jail records.

First Alert Traffic: Accident blocks left eastbound lane of Westmoreland Bridge

The incident, reported at 12:53 p.m., shut down the left eastbound lane near mile marker 214, headed from West Ashley to Mount Pleasant, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis.
