The first people to settle in what is now Mount Prospect, Illinois were primarily from New England. However, in the early 1840s, the majority of these settlers left for various reasons such as moving west for gold or religious reasons, or moving back east. In 1848 a large wave of German immigrants came to America and moved out west. Mount Prospect was primarily settled by Lutheran Germans whose hopes were to establish a community. They were successful in their goal, producing a German speaking, farming community.

A Mount Pleasant man was arrested after an off-duty Sullivan's Island firefighter discovered an unresponsive child inside a locked car at Waterfront Park. Clark Carl Riggins, a 39-year-old resident of Chatter Road, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child and given $5,000 bail, according to an incident report and jail records.
