The first people to settle in what is now Mount Prospect, Illinois were primarily from New England. However, in the early 1840s, the majority of these settlers left for various reasons such as moving west for gold or religious reasons, or moving back east. In 1848 a large wave of German immigrants came to America and moved out west. Mount Prospect was primarily settled by Lutheran Germans whose hopes were to establish a community. They were successful in their goal, producing a German speaking, farming community.

A Bluffton clothing store was the victim of theft again March 16 - the sixth such theft since November - when four women took $3,300 in items before being caught by Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies. Mt. Pleasant police searching for suspect who struck man in the head with gun

The Mount Pleasant Police Department released pictures of the suspect and are seeking the public's help in identifying him. According to police, the incident happened on March 18 at 2:40 a.m. when the suspect was involved in a disturbance and pulled a handgun on the victim.
