Cops: Trooper hurt as repeat drunk driver hits cruiser

A repeat drunken driver smashed into a state police cruiser last night, sending the trooper to the hospital, state police said. The crash happened on Interstate 495 southbound in Methuen near Exit 45 while the trooper was preparing for a road construction detail about 8 p.m. The trooper, whose name was not released, was taken to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen with minor injuries, state police said.

An 18-year-old Methuen man was seriously injured in a two-car crash at the intersection of Turnpike Road and Route 31 Saturday morning, according to a press release from the Ashby Police Department. A Toyota Camry traveling westbound on Turnpike Road did not heed a stop sign posted at the intersection and was struck by a GMC Acadia driving south on Route 31, flipping the Camry onto its roof, according to the release.

Methuen police are looking for a man who allegedly robbed a branch of The Savings Bank on Burnham Road late Saturday morning, the department announced on Facebook . The man pulled out a handgun, possibly a semi-automatic, and fled the bank with an undetermined amount of cash at about 11:22 a.m., the post said.

Two 12-year-olds rescued python found behind Lawrence school

Two 12-year-old boys came across a 3-foot-long ball python behind South Lawrence East Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon, police said. The python was taken to the MSPCA in Methuen and received treatment for some minor cuts.
