Hudson/Marlborough - Ida R. Manion, 87, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at UMass Memorial Healthcare - Memorial Campus after an illness. She was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of Peter G. and Anne Muise and had lived most of her life in Framingham and Marlborough before moving to Hudson in 2006.

FATAL FIRE A woman died early Thursday in a fire at a two-family Marlborough home that officials said was set ablaze by the improper disposal of smoking materials. Officials believe that the fire started around 4 a.m. Thursday near the couch in the living room on the first floor of the Neil Street duplex.

Smoking cause of fatal Marlborough fire

Deputy State Fire Marshal Maribel Fournier, Marlborough Fire Chief Kevin J. Breen and Marlborough Police Chief David Giorgi said in a statement released this afternoon that the cause of this morning's fire at 86 Neil Street was the improper disposal of smoking materials. The fire took the life of a woman believed to be the resident.
