At least a dozen rescued from 3-alarm Lynn fire

Lynn firefighters plucked at least a dozen residents from a burning apartment building this morning, pulling them from windows and fire escapes as the three-alarm fire raged inside, a city fire official said. None of the 40 residents were injured in the blaze, which ripped through the top floors and attic of the 12-unit Kingsley Terrace building around 5:30 a.m., as many people slept, according to District Chief Stephen Archer.

Man robbed and shot in his car in Lynn parking lot; attack captured on video

A man was robbed and "viciously shot" at close range while seated in his car in Lynn early Wednesday morning, Lynn Police Lieutenant Michael Kmiec said in a statement. The robbery and shooting occurred around 2:41 a.m. Wednesday in a parking lot at 124 Green St. The victim, a 39-year-old Topsfield man, pulled into the lot and parked his red Ford Mustang when two male suspects wearing hooded jackets approached him holding handguns.

Grace Cotter Regan to lead BC High

Grace Cotter Regan will be the next president of Boston College High School, the school's board of trustees announced on Aug. 24. The new head of the 154-year-old Jesuit institution has most recently served as head of school at St. Mary's in Lynn and was previously the executive director of advancement for the New England Province of Jesuits and the Boston College Alumni Association. She succeeds longtime President William Kemeza, who retired after a 30- year-career at the school earlier this year.

Unruly teens disrupt North End during summer feasts

For the fourth straight weekend, police were out in force in the North End, confronting hundreds of young people gathering there, some drinking openly and disturbing the peace, as the neighborhood's summer feasts honoring Catholic saints wound to a close. On Friday, police arrested 15 people, about half of them juveniles, "in response to numerous complaints from community members and neighborhood residents upset about young people drinking and disrupting not only the feasts, but the peace and tranquillity of the neighborhood," said Officer James Kenneally, a Boston police spokesman, in an e-mail.
