Logan is located in northern Utah. The city's motto is "United in Service." It was founded in 1859 by Mormon settlers who were sent by Brigham Young to find a place to establish a fort near the Logan River. The settlers decided to name their new community after Ephraim Logan who was a prominent fur trapper in the area. The city was incorporated in 1866. Soon after incorporation, several Later-day Saint temples were constructed including the Logan Utah Temple and Logan Tabernacle.

2-year-old boy drowns in Blacksmith Fork River during family camping trip

A 2-year-old boy drowned Sunday after apparently falling into a small tributary of the Blacksmith Fork River in Cache County. The child went miss about 10 a.m. after being left unattended for a few minutes during a family camping trip, according to Cache County Sheriff's Lt.

Utah State to pay $172,500 to student's family over slackline death

Juvenile justice reforms stirring concerns among educators, law enforcement

With an Aug. 1 implementation looming, some Utah educators are concerned about the practical implications of a new initiative that substantially changes how youths are treated in the juvenile justice system. One significant change is that schools will no longer be able to refer students to law enforcement or juvenile court for truancy or school-based status offenses, infractions or class C misdemeanors that occur on school grounds.

Police: 8-year-old died in trailer ramp accident in Cache County

Crews responded to a home Monday about 10 a.m., the Cache County Sheriff's Office said in a prepared statement, and rushed the child with significant injuries to a Logan hospital. A helicopter then flew the child to a Salt Lake hospital, where doctors pronounced the child dead hours later.

LDS Utah native wins $10,000 prize for film on immigration

Kyle Ransom of Logan, Utah, was the grand prize winner of "The America I Am" national youth film competition presented by the Tribeca Film Institute.
