Lodi is located in central California in San Joaquin County. The town was popularized by the song "Lodi" by the band Creedence Clearwater Revival. Big test still to come as SJ River keeps rising

Splashes of sunshine and some modest bits of good news cast San Joaquin County's flooding problems in a slightly more optimistic light on Tuesday. Still, the same levee that nearly failed one night earlier, forcing evacuations southwest of Manteca, will be working even harder over the next several days as flood releases from Don Pedro Reservoir reach the San Joaquin River and slowly push toward the Delta.

Don Pedro will spill today

Don Pedro Reservoir will spill over at 3 p.m. today, Lake Camanche above Lodi may spill today or Tuesday, and the worst of the rain and wind is yet to come for the northern San Joaquin Valley. Difficult to remember, impossible to forget: SJ Japanese look back on internment

If Dec. 7, 1941, was indeed a day that would live in infamy, as Franklin D. Roosevelt declared, Feb. 19, 1942, is one that lives in ignominy. It was 75 years ago today that Roosevelt signed presidential Executive Order 9066 to remove any or all people from military areas "as deemed necessary or desirable." The entire West Coast was defined as a military area and in effect, the order led to more than 110,000 Japanese-Americans being forced to internment camps.

At most of the crab feeds I've attended, the star attraction is marinated, usually in olive oil, garlic, lemon and parsley. Sometimes, Dungeness in its good-old, plain, unadorned glory is offered, which is my preference.

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition early last month included some 7,000 entries from wineries in 28 states.
