Coast Guard rescues 252-pound turtle that couldn't dive

A 252-pound loggerhead turtle has been rescued and is now in rehab after it was found struggling in the waters off Delaware. The crew of the 154-foot Lawrence Lawson, a fast response boat from the Coast Guard noticed that the turtle was covered in strange marine growths and was also having difficulty diving underwater for food and needed help.

Millsboro Town Council approved a request June 5 for the company to build a new distribution facility and ice cream parlor on a 3.5-acre parcel near the Millsboro Lanes bowling alley. "Council is incredibly excited that Lewes Dairy, a Sussex County icon, is moving to Millsboro," said Millsboro Town Manager Sheldon P. Hudson.

Mid-Sussex EMS chief charged with sexual assault

Delaware State Police this week charged the chief of emergency medical services for the Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad with both unlawful sexual contact and sexual harassment in connection with an alleged assault on a fellow EMT in early May. Police said their investigation into the alleged sexual assault started on May 28, when a female member of the Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad reported the incident to Troop 7 in Lewes. The investigation, based on the victim's report of the alleged encounter, involved 46-year-old Jerry Johnson of Millsboro, also an emergency medical technician, who was accused of sexually assaulting her.

Del. gay man who alleged police abuse found guilty

A 66-year-old gay man who filed a complaint against a police officer in Lewes, Del., for allegedly using excessive force to arrest him in January during an altercation at a hospital emergency room was found guilty by a Delaware judge on Tuesday on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, menacing, and resisting arrest. Judge Rosemary Beauregard of the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas announced at the conclusion of a non-jury trial in Georgetown, Del., that a state prosecutor proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Robaire G. Lizama engaged in "hysterical and abusive" behavior at the hospital that justified his arrest and confirmed he committed the three offenses.
