Lakewood is located in central Colorado, just outside of Denver and is part of the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was built by Charles Welch and W. A. H. The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless filed a suit last month in federal court to halt the sale of a 59-acre parcel of land next to the Federal Center in Lakewood to a developer, based partly on the grounds that HUD officials had determined that the property was unsuitable for homeless services.
