Crushed sewer line at former Sears store spills 8K gallons of raw sewage

Thousands of gallons of raw sewage spilled out of a pipe after it was crushed during construction at the site of the former Sears store at 3099 Woodland Drive SE in Kentwood. Contractors working on the site Friday, Oct. 27, crushed a 10-inch sanitary sewer main while they were moving dirt at the site where the Sears store was recently demolished at the Woodland Mall.

Rapid bus tax passes despite union contract dispute

Voters in six cities will continue to pay a tax to support The Rapid bus system for the next 12 years, according to unofficial results from the Tuesday, Nov. 7, election. The tax passed with about 61.5 percent of the vote across Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Kentwood, Grandville and Walker, according to unofficial election results as of 10 p.m. Tuesday.
