Driver arrested with stolen gun after fight with police

An Indiana man was arrested with a stolen gun during a traffic stop after fighting with police, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety reports. About 11:55 p.m. Monday, June 26, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were conducting speed enforcement in the 1400 block of Alamo Avenue following citizen complaints about speeding.

A restaurant employee making his daily delivery to the night depository was intercepted by a pair of armed robbers early Saturday morning on Kalamazoo's east side and forced to surrender the nightly cash deposit. It happened in the 5600 block of Gull Road in Comstock right around 3:25 in the morning.

Three people were arrested early Wednesday and a fourth suspect is still being sought after allegedly ramming a stolen car into a pawn shop so they could burglarize it. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says its officers were called to T&T Pawn Brokers on S. Westnedge Avenue north of W. Kilgore Road just before 5 a.m. when a burglary alarm went off.

All 7 children in U.S. 131 crash that injured 12 expected to survive

Authorities say the children were among 12 people injured in total when a southbound vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old Kalamazoo man, went out of control at about noon on June 21, crashed through the highway median and collided with two northbound vehicles. The crash occurred on U.S. 131 at Mile Marker 41. That is north of M-43 , which is Exit 38. After his body was carried through Kalamazoo County in a massive funeral procession Wednesday, June 21, Switalski was given a hero's funeral at Wings Event Center.
