Jacksonville is a suburb 15 miles northeast of Little Rock and was named for Mr. Nicholas Jackson. He donated land to the Cairo & Fulton Railroad for a railroad right-of-way in 1870. A community formed around the railroad depot eventually forming the town of Jacksonville which was incorporated in 1941. The Battle of Reed's Bridge Marker is found in Jacksonville. It memorializes Confederate troops who prevented Union troops from moving toward Little Rock during the Civil War. Unique to Jacksonville are the Museum of Military History and the Guitar Museum.

Lanes to close by U.S. 67/167

Construction on U.S. 67/167 in Pulaski and Lonoke counties will require overnight lane closures for six days beginning Sunday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said. At the same time, work on the highway's frontage road, T.P. White Drive, in the same location also will require intermittent lane closures.

More than two decades after he was found guilty in the slaying of a Jacksonville woman, Ledell Lee died by lethal injection Thursday night amid his protestations of innocence and last-ditch efforts for court-ordered DNA tests. Lee, who also was serving prison time after two rape convictions, was sent to death row primarily on eyewitness testimony, a shoe imprint and the serial number of a $100 bill he was accused of lifting from 26-year-old Debra Reese.
