Jacksonville is a suburb 15 miles northeast of Little Rock and was named for Mr. Nicholas Jackson. He donated land to the Cairo & Fulton Railroad for a railroad right-of-way in 1870. A community formed around the railroad depot eventually forming the town of Jacksonville which was incorporated in 1941. The Battle of Reed's Bridge Marker is found in Jacksonville. Arkansas parolee whose accomplice fatally shot during home invasion pleads guilty to manslaughter

A parolee whose accomplice was killed when they attempted a December 2014 home invasion has been sent back to prison for 30 years on manslaughter, burglary and drug charges. Steven Ray Miller, 47, of Jacksonville pleaded guilty on Thursday to aggravated residential burglary and manslaughter in exchange for a 20-year sentence.

A Little Rock man faces a felony charge over the shooting of a dog in the chest Tuesday evening, authorities said. Pulaski County deputies were sent to the 17900 block of Kumpe Lane south of Little Rock sometime before 8:30 p.m. after getting a call that an animal had been shot, according to a report.

Little Rock fire agency accredited as top-tier

The Little Rock Fire Department has received international accreditation, making it the fourth such department in the state to have it, officials announced Thursday. The Commission of Fire Accreditation International approved the accreditation last month, making Little Rock one of the less than 1 percent of fire departments nationwide to have the recognition.

Police on Wednesday identified the teen they are seeking in the fatal shooting of a North Little Rock man at a Little Rock apartment complex. Jasper Singleton, 19, is wanted in the death of 43-year-old Steven McPherson, police said in a news release.

U.S. 67/167 traffic shift to close lane

Work on U.S. 67/167 in Jacksonville will require a lane closure to accommodate a traffic shift tonight, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said. Northbound traffic on the highway will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Thursday to allow for the opening of the Redmond Road exit ramp and the closing of the Main Street exit ramp, weather permitting.

As a Jacksonville man's capital-murder trial began Wednesday, his attorneys attacked police tactics that led their client to admit to the shooting, telling a Pulaski County jury that investigators ignored the man when he was able to tell them about the real killer. Prosecutors are seeking a life sentence for Zavier Marquis Pree, 21, over the July 2015 slaying of 18-year-old Aaron Crawford of Little Rock.

Shotgun blast at surveyor brings charge

Chad Rowe, 38, who lives on Dorsey Road north of Jacksonville, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Pulaski deputies for allegedly firing a shotgun blast in the direction surveyor who stepped on his property. No one was hit, but Rowe was charged with felony aggravated assault.
