Originally named Alexandria Jackson was renamed in 1822 after General (and eventual President) Andrew Jackson. The city was as a busy railroad junction before the Civil War and also performed train maintenance. Isaac Burton Tigrett, co founder of the Hard Rock Café franchise, was born in Jackson.
