Part of the Richmond metropolitan area Hopewell was established in 1613 by Sir Thomas Dale as its point overlooking the James and Appomattox rivers. City Point was also the headquarters of General Ulysses S. Grant during the Siege of Petersburg during the American Civil War. City Council votes to increase sewer rates

During Hopewell's City Council session on July 7, the governing body made its decision on whether or not to increase Hopewell's sewer rates. Hopewell Water Renewal Facility's Director Jeanie Grandstaff prepared one work session presentation to council in May 2017 before formally placing the item on Council's agenda in June 2017 explaining why this increase was coming forward.

US Marshals nab Hopewell armed robbery suspect

Officials with the the Hopewell Police Department said 25-year-old De'Sean Couch of Petersburg was arrested by the U.S Marshal's Fugitive Task Force at 1 p.m. Couch is facing charges of robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon since police said he had a gun when he was apprehended. Officers were called to the 500 Block of Hill Avenue last Friday just after 10:15 a.m. for a reported armed robbery.

New residential, commercial property planned for Hopewell

Ohio-based Woda Group wants to bring a four-story building with both apartment and commercial space on East Cawson Street. Riverton Apartments currently fill the space where the development is slated to go, meaning the apartments will have to be demolished.
