Parade, walk honor past

Saturday was spent celebrating history with the 17th annual Walk to Dorchester and Liberty County's inaugural Juneteenth parade in downtown Hinesville. First was the 9.5-mile walk from Briar Bay Park to Historic Dorchester Academy beginning at 6 a.m. Community members, churches and local officials participated in the walk.

Alleged child rapist pleads not guilty

A man charged with raping and sodomizing a young girl over a 20-month period pleaded not guilty Monday in court. Brandon Antonio Lamont Walthour, 32, is charged with rape, aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and sexual battery for allegedly victimizing the daughter of a former girlfriend in her Hinesville apartment.

$78 million in bonds approved for Interstate Paper

The Liberty County Development Authority has approved issuance of $78 million in bonds to pay for improvements at Interstate Paper, one of the area's largest employers. About $68 million will go to pay for an upgrade of IP's existing Riceboro linerboard mill.
