The packed parking lot and lines of cars extending out to MacArthur Drive can only mean one thing - Cook Out is officially open. The eatery famous for its burgers and milkshakes started welcoming customers Nov. 9. The diner offers burgers that are fresh, never frozen, as well as hot dogs, chicken and barbecue pork.

Commissioners set tax millage, bills going up

After completing a third public hearing on tax rates Thursday, Liberty County commissioners enacted an overall tax millage rate of 36.266 which is a 1.30 mill increase from last year. For residents of unincorporated Liberty County and the cities of Midway, Riceboro, Flemington, Allenhurst, Gum Branch and Walthourville, the raised millage would amount to a $78 per year increase in ad valorem tax on a $150,000 home with no exemptions.

Good News: Mobile food drive

The United Way of Liberty County and America's Second Harvest Food Bank held a mobile food drop in Hinesville for people who might need a little help keeping food in the house at this time of year. The event provided 25,000 pounds of food to accommodate 500 homes, feeding roughly 2,500 people in two hours.

Hinesville gets grant to help city's homeless

Album: 'Veterans Day Parade'

The ninth Liberty County Veteran's Day Parade in downtown Hinesville drew a sparse crowd Saturday, but that didn't appear to dampen the spirits of the veterans who participated. Approximately 20 organizations took part in the parade, which is organized by East Liberty County American Legion Post 321.
