Situated in the south central San Joaquin Valley, the city of Hanford is an important commercial and cultural center. The Hanford Fox Theatre was built downtown in 1929. The building is used predominately for live concerts and shows including the Charlie Daniels Band and Kathy Griffin. The Bastille, used as the Kings County Jail from 1898 through 1964, was constructed using Romanesque style architecture and features a crenellated octagonal tower.
